Introduction:
Networks are part of the basic infrastructure requirement for every organization. Indian organizations, MNCs, even NGOs require a network setup to run their offices. The growth in the use services over a network like e-mail or Voice over IP etc make it a necessity for organizations to implement networks. There is increasing need for well trained engineers who can manage networks. The basic skills required are of a Network Administrator and this is the startup position in most organizations for freshers. As one gathers experience the role enhances from
Administration - Day to day functioning of the network. One should understand the various elements of the network and how to configure them and manage them. Generally the IT department will have set up a policy while designing the network. However as a network grows and expands due to the number of users, terminals connected on it, the same policies need to be improved. Also a watch is to be kept for incidents of Security Leakage, misuse of resources. The Network administrator therefore needs to know how to manage the health of the network.
An administrator will move ahead to become a network implementation engineer and also with experience be able to conduct Network Audits. An experienced network engineer will go further to help design networks.
